My review and perspective on model: DC17 Animal vacuum cleanerThis is the Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review please check the reviews page for a comparison of other vacuum cleaners.
Dyson really is quickly becoming one of the most affordable mid to high end vacuum manufacturers on the market. And I can generally recommend them to most people who vacuum more than once a month as they will pay for themselves over time. A Dyson isn't all shine and glamor though, they do require a small amount of work to keep them running like new. Luckily unlike many cheaper brands they can be kept running because they are durable enough to be serviced. Dyson really became famous with their commercials that claimed that they never lose suction. While this is true, it's kind of tricky advertising. A Dyson never loses suction at the motor, but it can clog and lose suction long before it arrives at the motor. What Dyson is referring to when they say that their vacuums never lose suction is actually their system of multiple suction points. Even their large upright vacuums suction line from the motor splits into several smaller suction points before reaching the dirt cup. This design is ingenious as it not only allows for one port to clog leaving the others free but it truly does create more suction. As we learned in science class fast flowing fluids creates low pressure, and low pressure is what we perceive as suction in a vacuum. So the idea of necking down the suction tubes to smaller tubes creates very fast moving air, in turn making a huge low pressure zone, for more suction than your average vacuum. The bad thing about this design is that while it gives several bypasses for clogs it aids in the clogging process with smaller easier to clog tunnels the dirt can potentially travel into. You should watch out for this if you decide to purchase a Dyson.
Model: DC17 Animal Product DescriptionDesigned for homes with pets, this Dyson upright vacuum cleaner features advanced Level 3 Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Effective for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect rugs and delicate floors. The vacuum cleaner also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach; the wand releases and expands 16-feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. In addition, the unit's advanced mini turbine head cleans pet hair from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs, and the car, and its low-reach floor tool attaches to the wand to clean hard-to-reach places such as under beds and sofas.
Thoughtfully designed, the unit's hygienic 5/8-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--simply pull the trigger. The clear bin means no bags to buy, plus it allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when it's full. Air expelled from the unit contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter. Furthermore, Dyson upright vacuums are the first and only vacuums certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. Other highlights include 220 air watts, auto carpet-height adjustment, a 35-foot cord, on-board tool storage, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry. The included carpet-care kit helps keep new carpets looking new. The Zorb powder absorbs dirt from carpets; the Dyzolve spray removes spills and marks. The durably built vacuum cleaner measures 26-2/3 by 13-1/5 by 43-1/2 inches and carries a five-year warranty.

The DC17 Animal is a Residential vacuum designed for use in the Residential environment. I have reviewed it accordingly, the price point of the DC17 Animal is set for the Residential industry which should be taken into consideration when purchasing or thinking about purchasing this vacuum. Commercial vacuum cleaners may be built to last longer and endure more abuse, but are more expensive and may be lacking some of the luxuries (such as light weight, or low noise) that you are accustomed to. On the contrary Residential vacuums are made at lower price points, lower quality, but are often lighter and quieter to use.
