My review and perspective on model: AS1001A vacuum cleanerThis is the Eureka AirSpeed Gold Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review please check the reviews page for a comparison of other vacuum cleaners.
The Eureka AirSpeed Gold Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner is a pretty good machine, and a great machine for the money. It has a clear shell over the brush roll, which is nice for about 30 seconds, then you turn it on, dirt and dust are whirled around it gets scratched and packed with dirt, then it becomes a brown plastic cover. The dirt cup has one of the best... and worst design features ever. It allows you to dump the dirt from the bottom with a trap door, so you can stick it in the trash can and hide from the dust being dumped. This is an improvement over top load dirt cups.... but... is often prone to breaking, and once that latch or door breaks the vacuum nearly becomes worthless.
Other than a few design flaws the Eureka AirSpeed Gold Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner is a good vacuum cleaner for surface cleaning. The air powered AirSpeed brush is a great bonus too! These types of units often retail for $70 by themselves from a lot of places. This allows you to vacuum your stairs with a powered brush roll, something that is a rarity with most vacuum cleaners. The design is such that it is powered by suction, the brush roll is driven by a heavy duty belt with teeth so it never slips, never breaks, and since it is powered by suction it will allow the brush roll to stop if it is caught instead of destroying the unit. These air powered tools are invaluable, I've installed $5,000 central vacuum systems that have motors larger than this entire vacuum cleaner that leave dirt behind because they do not agitate the carpet, spreading the carpet fibers to allow the suction to do its job and pick up the dirt buried deep down. Anyone with stairs in their homes will LOVE this unit.
Ever since Eureka purchased Sanitaire (the commercial vacuum cleaner company) the quality of Eureka machines has been kept top notch. And for $110 you won't find a more durable machine... unfortunately that's not to say that this machine will come even close to keeping up with say an Oreck Pilot in terms of longevity. The case is still rather flimsy plastic, and the brush roll is also plastic. This will significantly decrease the lifespan of your vacuum cleaner. However, with a gentle hand, and a good vacuum service technician in your area you potentially could keep this vacuum cleaner for several years to come.
Some will also have issue with the lack of sealing power to this machine. Not saying that it will blow dust when you first purchase it, but most of the connections that dirt travels through are plastic to plastic and will wear over time. And it does not have a HEPA filter, shouldn't be a problem for most people, as HEPA is mostly an over priced hype show to tag one more "certification" onto a vacuum cleaner and get you to pay more money for something that will make little or no noticeable difference in real world applications.
Model: AS1001A Product DescriptionMoves More Air. Removes More Dirt
Combining powerful suction and extra reach, the Eureka AirSpeed Gold is a bagless upright vacuum that cleans carpets better than the leading uprights.* Boasting innovative AirSpeed Technology, AirSpeed Gold offers deep cleaning throughout the whole home. The cleaning experts at Eureka know that superior cleaning is important to their customers, but just as essential are specific tools and attachments to attack personal cleaning challenges. Eureka’s AirSpeed Gold delivers remarkable cleaning power, convenient tools and an easy-to-use design -- all in an affordable package.
The key to the cleaning power of AirSpeed Gold lies in its AirSpeed Technology. Unlike most other vacuums with a typically winding hose, AirSpeed Technology has two smooth tubes, featuring limited bends and turns. This allows more air to pass through the vacuum and offers a powerful, deep clean that removes more than just the dirt you can see. The direct air path from floor to cup decreases the distance for dirt to travel, which increases the amount of airflow for powerful suction.
Whirlwind Cyclonic Technology
Eureka’s Whirlwind Cyclonic Technology offers maintained suction power and less maintenance** by separating larger debris from fine dust once the dirt is delivered to the dust cup.
Powerful Air Flow
For above-the-floor cleaning, an airflow control switch easily directs air from the base of the vacuum to the hose. This allows users to concentrate all of the vacuum’s suction power where they need it. When deep cleaning carpets, the power is directed to the floor. When using tools to remove dirt from hard-to-reach areas like stairs or baseboards, the power is concentrated in the extension hose.
Getting the Best Results
• Moving brush roll, power switch should be in suction only position when using hose. Do not use the cleaner without the filter and bag properly installed. This can damage the cleaner.
• Some fine particles can restrict airflow very quickly and will decrease performance even before the dust container appears full. For that reason, when vacuuming carpet fresheners or cleaners, powder, plaster dust or similar fine substances, the dust cup and filter may need cleaning more often.
• Use the cleaner to pick up dirt and dust particles. Avoid picking up hard or sharp objects that could damage the vacuum cleaner.
• To avoid unnecessary service calls, check the hose, dust cup and motor filter often. Clear a clogged hose, empty the bag if it is full, and clean the motor filter when it is dirty.
The AS1001A is a Residential vacuum designed for use in the Residential environment. I have reviewed it accordingly, the price point of the AS1001A is set for the Residential industry which should be taken into consideration when purchasing or thinking about purchasing this vacuum. Commercial vacuum cleaners may be built to last longer and endure more abuse, but are more expensive and may be lacking some of the luxuries (such as light weight, or low noise) that you are accustomed to. On the contrary Residential vacuums are made at lower price points, lower quality, but are often lighter and quieter to use.
