My review and perspective on model: U5140-900 Tempo vacuum cleaner

This is the Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum Review please check the reviews page for a comparison of other vacuum cleaners.

I used to be able to recommend Hoover as the best vacuum cleaner around. Hands down if someone asked me what vacuum they should buy I could honestly look at them and say "Find a Hoover in your price range" and the issue was closed. They used to have a wide variety of vacuums for every type of home and each one was made at top quality. All of that has changed, they moved to Mexico for lower production costs but maintained their quality for a while, still not able to compete in the market though they soon sold all patents and the Hoover name to China.

Not all Hoover vacuum cleaners are bad, but they're far from the high quality standards throughout their entire product line that they used to be. This Hoover Widepath vacuum is one of the best vacuum cleaners in its price range, it's a diamond in the rough based on some of the older Hoover patents and it works very well. It's not perfect by any means with one of the worst features that any vacuum in this price range will contain a plastic brush roll I wouldn't suggest this vacuum for large areas. If you've read my other reviews you know I have a big problem with plastic brush rolls I've seen my fair share of them melted inside a vacuum that complete ruins it and makes it unrepairable. This happens when the vacuum is run for extended periods of time it heats up and warps over time, the warping then starts catching and causing more heat, eventually locking up completely when the friction from the belt will cause it to melt in place, often destroying the entire lower case. Now if you've got a smaller area to clean, or just need something cheap to get you by for a while this is the vacuum for you! It is not bagless, so that is a consideration. You get a much lower price with bagged vacuum cleaners because the manufacturers know that you'll be spending money on bags putting more money in their pockets over time. Some people like bagged vacuum cleaners though because dust cups can cause a LOT of mess when you're emptying them making the HEPA filter obsolete. Speaking of, yes, this vacuum does have a HEPA filtration system which is great for people prone to allergies. All be told you get a lot of great features for a very low price. The included hose is a more supple easy to manipulate hose than any other vacuum in its price range and comes with two long extensions so you can clean cobwebs from corners up high, or get ceiling fans. The way the hose "plugs in" so to speak when you're using it in upright mode is less prone to clogging than other designs I've seen, but is not impervious. As with all combination upright vacuums with hoses clogging is going to be an issue, slightly less with this one than some others though.

This vacuum isn't the worst thing out there by a long shot, in fact you won't find much in this price range to compete with it. If you're looking for a vacuum for a smaller apartment that is light weight does a good job of picking up and doesn't need to clean large areas this is a great vacuum for you. The combination of upright vacuum with the attached hose makes it great for smaller areas when you don't want multiple vacuum cleaners lying around in storage. Anything larger than a large apartment, or half-duplex I wouldn't suggest this vacuum for, even though I have some customers that use these at hotel's or for small cleaning businesses (because of the light weight and wide path make it fast and easy to clean areas). Most of them end up changing brush rolls on these about once every 6 months when used in a commercial setting it's the only way to keep them from melting the brush roll.

The U5140-900 Tempo is a Residential vacuum designed for use in the Residential environment. I have reviewed it accordingly, the price point of the U5140-900 Tempo is set for the Residential industry which should be taken into consideration when purchasing or thinking about purchasing this vacuum. Commercial vacuum cleaners may be built to last longer and endure more abuse, but are more expensive and may be lacking some of the luxuries (such as light weight, or low noise) that you are accustomed to. On the contrary Residential vacuums are made at lower price points, lower quality, but are often lighter and quieter to use. Please feel free to add your own perspective of the Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum Review.
